There are places that impress not through noise or spectacular attractions, but through their stillness. Comandău is one of them.
Sitting at over 1,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by the forests that blanket the Brețcu Mountains, the village has built its identity across generations in close connection with nature. Few people know that the settlement came to life in the late 19th century, with the rise of the timber industry in the area. People came here drawn by the richness of the forests, and over time they built homes, workshops and forged an isolated yet resilient community.
For decades, life in Comandău revolved around timber and the famous forest railway that wound its way through the mountains. Today, the echo of those times can still be felt in the stories of the locals, in old photographs and in the unique atmosphere of the place. But what has remained unchanged is the nature that surrounds the village: the endless forests, the clean air and the feeling that the world moves here at a different pace.
Our story began with a desire to preserve and share this feeling. We didn't set out to change the place, but to become part of it. The handful of small cabins tucked beside the water and along the edge of the forest were designed as a simple and peaceful retreat, where people can rediscover the beauty of the essentials: a cool mountain morning, the stillness of a pond, the scent of fir trees after rain or a sky full of stars on a clear night.
For us, Comandău is not just a dot on the map. It is a place with history, traditions and a character all its own, shaped equally by people and by nature. And every guest who arrives here becomes, even if just for a few days, part of a story that continues to be written among the mountains, the forests and the silence.

An extraordinary peaceful retreat, nestled in the heart of nature. The lodges are clean and welcoming, and the pond and hot tub are the perfect way to unwind. The food is excellent, especially the fresh fish. An evening by the campfire is an experience you'll never forget.
If you're looking for the real outdoors, this is the place. ATV riding through the forest was the highlight, and fishing in the pond was wonderfully relaxing. The lodges are simple but comfortable, and evenings around the campfire add a truly magical touch to the whole experience.
